5K Run / Walk

A Tradition

The first CB5K run was held in 2005 as a result of Friends of Crystal Beach members brainstorming on how to raise some money to finance their efforts to enhance our community.  The 5K idea took off like the "Comet" roller coaster!

In the first year (2005), there were 70 runners and walkers making their way down Erie Road during a windy rainstorm. But the bad weather didn't stop us!  The numbers have increased annually as has the support from Niagara Region residents and businesses.  The CB5K has become a Thanksgiving weekend tradition here in Crystal Beach.  It is held annually on the Saturday before Canadian Thanksgiving Monday.

On October 10, 2015 (the 11th annual run), over 600 runners and walkers registered.  The Kids Fun Run for ages 9 and under is held right before the 5K and had a record 50+ seriously pumped kids in 2015!  Both races begin and end on Erie Road at the Crystal Chandelier Restaurant.

Following each 5K run, an awards ceremony is held at Sneakers Restaurant, which include a post race party with live music, food and beverages.  In 2015 we presented a custom "Crystal Beach 5K" finisher medal to ALL who crossed the finish line, thanks to the generous financial support from Alfred Beam Excavating!  Winner medals are awarded to the top 3 runners in each age group and special plaques are presented to the overall winning male and female.  Our vintage CB5K T-shirts have become a collectors' item and have been seen all over the Niagara Region and Buffalo year round.

The course is a flat, fast, out-and-back sanctioned / certified course.  More information can be found at www.crystalbeach5k.com.

We are always looking for volunteers to assist with many different tasks, so if you're interested please let us know!  We welcome all and we promise that you'll have a great time!
